Freediving courses in Vienna

PADI Basic Freediver Course
  • PADI Basic Freediver

  • Ages 12 and up (under 18 with parental consent)

  • No prior experience necessary

  • Good health and swimming skills required

  • Duration: 1 day

  • Location: June to August at Neufelder See. September to May in the pool. 

 

Course content:

  • Introduction to freediving

  • Theory 

  • Equipment

  • Diving reflex & urge to breathe

  • Breathing techniques & stretching

  • Mental component

  • Buddy system & safety

  • Static apnea (STA)

  • Duck dive & Fin technique

  • Dynamic apnea (DYN)

  • Rescue

Course goals:

  • Static apnea (STA): 90sec.

  • Distance diving (DYN): 25m

​

What to bring:

  • Own *ABC equipment (mask, snorkel, fins) recommended

  • Wetsuit & weight belt (if available)

  • Dive computer or waterproof stopwatch 

  • Towel & Swimsuit/swimming trunks

​

*ABC equipment, wetsuit & weights can be rented from Tauchsport-Vienna (Neufelder See) for a rental fee

or from Club-Divestyle (pool) for a donation of your choice.

PADI Freediver Course
  • PADI Freediver

  • Location: June to August at Neufelder See. September to May in the pool. 

 

Prerequisites:

  • Good swimming skills (able to swim 200 m)

  • Good health

  • No chronic or acute illnesses that prevent diving

  • Intact cardiovascular system

  • Clear sinuses and frontal sinuses

  • Healthy ears (eardrum, middle and inner ear)

  • From the age of 45, a diving fitness examination is required!

 

Course content Day 1:

  • Introduction to freediving

  • Theory 

  • Equipment

  • Diving reflex & urge to breath

  • Breathing techniques & stretching

  • Mental component

  • Buddy system & safety

  • Pre-dive preparations (STA & DYN)

  • Static (STA)

  • Duck dive & fin technique

  • Dynamic apnea (DYN)

  • Rescue

 

Course content Day 2:

  • Theory

  • Advanced equipment

  • Equalization maneuvers (Valsalva vs. Frenzel)

  • Buddy system & safety

  • Pre-dive preparations (CWT & FIM)

  • Duck dive & descend

  • Free immersion (FIM)

  • Constant weight (CWT)

  • Rescue

Requirements for certification:

  • Static apnea (STA): 90sec.

  • Dynamic apnea (DYN): 25m

  • Constant weight (CWT): 10m

 

What to bring:

  • Own *ABC equipment (mask, snorkel, fins) recommended

  • Wetsuit & weight belt (if available)

  • Dive computer or waterproof stopwatch

  • Towel

  • Swimsuit/swimming trunks

  • PADI Freediver certification (or equivalent from another organization)!

  • Good state of health

  • No chronic or acute illnesses that prevent diving

  • Intact cardiovascular system

  • Clear sinuses and frontal sinuses

  • Healthy ears (eardrum, middle & inner ear)

  • Starting from the age of 45, a diving fitness examination is required.

 

Course Content - Day 1:

  • Static (STA): 2:30min.

  • Dynamic (DYN): 50m

  • Depth (CWT): 20m

 

What to bring?

  • From the Advanced Freediver level, I recommend investing in your own equipment!

    • ABC (mask, snorkel, fins)

    • Wetsuit

    • Weight belt

    • (Dive computer)

  • Towel

  • Swimsuit/swim trunks
